Five Love Principles for Living in the Community of Christian Believers

In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul has written an analogy. He likens the community of Christian believers to a physical body. The sum total of believers form the body of Christ. Based on Paul’s explanations I want to share the following love principles.

We Belong Together

We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. We have asked him to forgive us our sins and to be our Lord and Saviour. We have much in common. St. Paul says we are the body of Christ. We are the representation of Christ on this earth.

We Have Common Goals

We pray to our father in heaven: “Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  These are the main aims of the body of Christ. As we are part of that body these goals are ours too.

We Need Each Other

We are used to seeing bodies everyday. Just imagine a number of legs or noses going about on their own apart from the bodies they belong to. That does not work. All the parts of a body can only properly fulfill their purpose if operating being connected to the body.

We Differ from Each Other

Christian believers have had various religious backgrounds before turning to Christ. We are of different social standing. Paul reports that some believers were slaves others were free. Today we have Christians in all walks of life.

Each of us, we have individual traits of personality. Although we have much in common we don’t exactly think the same way. We differ from each other by our aptitudes and inclinations.

We Are Valuable Parts of that Body

Not only the most prominent parts are important to a well working body. You may admire the legs of an Olympic runner. Yet what if a kidney or the liver of that man would cease to do its job? Most of us won’t admire kidneys or livers of successful sportsmen. Still these parts are essential for the success of anybody.

You may never find yourself in the forefront or in the limelight of any Christian ministry. Most people may not even take notice of your contribution. Nevertheless as you belong to the body of Christ your faithfulness is essential and valuable.
