“Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. … And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:8+13/NIV)
Another first glance at 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 leads me to the following conclusion: Certain things are of lasting value. Other things will not remain. We are encouraged to focus on and to pursue that which will last.
Having said this, the following words of Jesus come to my mind:
“Do not store up yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21/NIV).
